At character creation, you begin with one language, and you may learn additional languages up to the value of your Diligence attribute. To learn a new language, you can spend 1 XP.
The region tag identifies the areas of the cluster where a language is commonly spoken. If a language lacks a region tag, it indicates that while the language is used in that area, it is relatively uncommon. Speakers of such languages are typically part of a smaller community or belong to a group with a specific reason for using the language. The regions are as follows:
The population icon shows where in a given system you are likely to encounter speakers of the language. These icons are as follows:
Languages can, of course, be found outside of the regions indicated, but they are less commonly spoken in those areas.
If you find yourself in a location that does not align with either the region tag or the population icon, then the language is exceedingly rare in that area. You and your GM may work together to create unique languages specific to your sessions. Below are listed languages in the setting of armournaut.
Venti (Venti Space, Core, Jambles 🌏 🛰️): A poetic and expressive language known for its high-pitched vowels and flowing consonants. It serves as the common lingua franca throughout much of the cluster, owing to the foundational role of the Venti Republics in cluster-wide trade.
Union Syndical (Lunar Union Territories, Jambles 🌏🛰️): A practical, highly efficient language designed for clarity and ease of use. The Lunar Union has made literacy a priority across the cluster, providing free educational resources to ensure universal access to learning.
Edrudite Municipal (Temple Sphere, Core 🌏🛰️): A precise and complex language, featuring elaborate syntax and an extensive vocabulary. It is primarily used for governance and administrative purposes within the Temple Sphere.
Jaori (Temple Sphere, Jambles🛰️): This language, originating from the world of Odelke, became common in the Temple Sphere after its population was granted asylum near Aqilmendi. It is also widely spoken in Jambles, particularly by former GELF warriors who now serve as Armournauts.
Jhandan (Core, Frontier, Jambles🌏🛰️⭐️): Spoken by the Gene-Flagellants, Jhandan originates from the ruined city of Morganna. The popularity of its associated religion has propelled it to prominence, with its influence growing rapidly, possibly surpassing even Venti in use.
Fenghuang (Jambles, Frontier 🛰️): Known for its elegance and rich symbolism, Fenghuang is the language of the Averi, favored for its flowing nature and metaphoric depth. It is surprisingly common in both the Core and Frontier, especially among those wishing to align with these proud people.
Yscenic (Core🌏): A declining language, more of a creole formed from several ancient Earth languages. It is mainly spoken in the small Yscenic territories and some frontier colonies. Armournauts and privateers throughout the cluster often learn it to connect with their Yscenic employers.
Yazaiti (Jambles🌏🛰️): A melodic yet abrupt language, combining rapid syllables with complex tonal shifts. Since the fall of Semaj, Nayr, and Rednaz, Yazaiti Which was formally the language relegated to religious ceremony, has become the primary language of the weakening Triemirate.
Hiraethan (Jambles⭐️🛰️): A highly intricate language, notable for its preoccupation with the human form and its rigid system of honorifics. It is spoken by the despotic populations of Hiraeth refugees, now residing in nomadic and orbital communities within the Jambles.
Fernweh (Frontier⭐️🛰️): Known for its simple syntax and evocative imagery, Fernweh is the language of refugees who fled from the Hiraethan Palatinate. They now form small, well-armed communities across the Frontier, guiding newcomers toward their planned sanctuary.
Portspeak (Frontier, Jambles🛰️): A utilitarian language full of jargon and slang, derived from Venti, Union Syndical, and Yazaiti. Initially used by a handful of orbital communities in the Jambles region, its use has grown significantly in recent years, especially after its adoption by the LNA as their primary language.
Zyrg (Core⭐️): A sophisticated and ornate language, Zyrg reflects the wealth and cultural prominence of the Zyrgyzoi nomads, who are as rich in metaphor and symbolism as they are in precious resources. Armournauts have been known to struggle through the almost philosophical tongue to better access the lucrative contracts.
Obriossian (Core, Jambles🛰️): Now used primarily as a specialized, concise language, Obriossian is filled with coded terms, jargon, and shorthand. It facilitates efficient communication and secrecy, particularly among the influential Obriossian banking guilds and dronesteaders.
Gystlian (Core, Frontier 🛰️⭐️): A harsh and guttural language, Gystlian is spoken by the reavers, synods, and fealken of the Gystlian Leasehold. It is regarded as a language of nomadic raiders, and speaking it without caution can lead to significant conflict.
O⭐️: A minimalist language that relies heavily on gestures and contextual cues. It is spoken by the enigmatic O people, whose secretive and isolationist culture is as cryptic as their language.
Lha’Mhaggean⭐️: A deep and resonant language with roots in ancient rituals and mysticism, Lha'Mhaggean is often used in Enazcan rites. It is also studied by those exploring the Lha’Mhaggean arcologies in search of lost high technology. It is rumoured that many of the Lha’Mhaggean GELF still respond to commands issued in this language.
Enazcan (Frontier, Jambles🛰️): A fluid and rhythmic language, deeply influenced by nature and the elements. It emphasizes water-related imagery and sound and is spoken by those who revere the divine forces of nature and the Lha’Mhaggeans.

Ophidian🌏: A serpentine, sibilant language characterized by hissing sounds and deliberate pauses. It is associated with the secretive and esoteric teachings of Dyorphidianism and its many denominations.
Old Earth Dialects🌏: A collection of fragmented languages, full of archaic phrases and cultural references, used by small groups across the cluster that cling to their heritage and the dream of long lost nations.
