Little is recollected about old earth a great has been learnt and recovered but some historical understandings the origin of humanity seem mired in uncomfortable levels of speculation. It is suggested that mankind left the earth in a vast fleet of colonial ships, estimates derived from temple genetic sampling place total number of colonists at 1 billion. it is still unclear what proportion were of the colonists were foetal specimens. In any case the sheer mass of humanity the left the earth is nothing short of monumental and verges on miraculous. But perhaps what is more noteworthy is the reason for the exodus, what motivated so many people to leave what could prompt such unparalleled cooperation coordination and organisation. What happened to those who remained.
Though archaeological and historical accounts note a great deal of war, famine and and societal declination these all appear secondary to complete climate collapse. By 2120 no life in the ocean’s bathypelagic zone had been recorded in 18 months the earth population had decreased from 8 billion to 4 billion and yet nightmarish accounts of unsustainable populations were ubiquitous across the globe. Clean air, water and food drew humanity together but the struggle to control these now priceless commodities spurred many to opportunism and violence. Democratic principles were abandoned and societies everywhere regressed to tyranny of the strong and subjugation of the weak. Even that proved unsustainable, humanity contracted to 3 billion and it became apparent sustainable populations numbered in the hundred thousands rather than the millions.
Facing extinction our ancestors harnessed untold man power, generations were born, lived and died creating orbital installations that in turn created the vast colonial flotilla. Run way greenhouse effects prevented heat escaping from earth’s atmosphere, the seas vaporised escalating carbon cycle beyond recovery. The land was baked and terrestrial life was only found in densely packed habitats and even then it was either human or cultured proteins. Flora faired better in the habitats, nursed and tended to constantly for the fear that any imbalance any wayward bacterial or fungal moulder could create a cascade failure in the confined environment. Slowly much of the earth’s meagre value was lifted away. Air, water, food fuel, minerals, animals, people, the smart and the powerful and the strong and the useful and the and the well liked were taken. The rest that remained most assuredly hungered, fought and died for nothing.
The world could not be saved and humanity could survive in space, not forever. Other worlds so distant that no one person might survive the journey, even with the hibernation beds, these would have to be home. Some believed venus, europa, mars or the oort cloud were better candidates. It is romantic to believe some dregs of humanity might yet reside in the sol system subsisting in a tenuous equilibrium blindly waiting millions of years for earth to recover. It is also romantic to think that some scientists might have saved earth at the 11th hour but relying but faith alone cannot preserve humanity.
After the scattering, much of humanity relived the horrors of the last century the non-viable colonies far outweighed the viable ones. The archaeological evidence was perspicuous, colonies that failed to implement sustainable technologies, energy, agriculture and industry simply failed to be colonies. so much of humanity wasted again, needlessly and perhaps worse so many verdant worlds with independent life were snuffed out by human hubris.
Kluster Klimazchuts (KK) was created to prevent further planetary climate declination on habitable cluster worlds. They aim to ensure mankind always has worlds to inhabit and that the pre-existing ecologies are not unduly harmed by human habitation. It is the preeminent environmentalism movement within the cluster and cooperates with countless political parties to promote sustainability heighten public awareness. The frontier has emboldened KK to support sustainable colonial projects to further their aims and test new sustainable technologies.
Armournauts have been hired with increasing regularity to provide security for KK aligned colonial efforts. KK colonies are some the most sophisticated and successful within the frontier and their profitable trade makes them appealing targets for piracy.
