A troubling trend is emerging across the involves individuals who spend excessively long periods in jaunt beds without setting a wake date, leading to what are known as "soft suicides." In these cases, the individuals essentially choose to die in a state of hibernation, long after everyone they once knew has passed away. This trend is known by various names Long Jaunting, Suisleeping, Cadveresting and it carries different meanings for those who glorify or engage in it. Groups such as the Somnopunks, Futurists, and Doomsdayers are drawn to the allure of endless, dreamless sleep, each finding their own justifications for their fixation on jaunt beds. The superpowers have implemented strict regulations on jaunt bed use, including failsafes designed to wake individuals and tightly control the technology within monitored environments. However, the widespread use of jaunt beds for interstellar travel makes it easier to bypass these safeguards. Countless studies have explored the sleeper phenomenon, frustratingly generating as main conflicting hypotheses as there are sleeper groups. Most theories assert that sleepers maladaptively recognise that the ease, expediency, accessibility and perceived reversibility of recreational jaunt bed use led to its widespread misuse as a tool for escapism. Psychologically Jaunt bed misuse has been shown as precursor to suicidality and is heavily associated with depression and anxiety.
